Job Description

Job Purpose/Key Objectives
The Senior Associate, Litigation, will manage and resolve complex legal disputes, advising on litigation options and risks, and overseeing external counsel. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who has significant experience in dispute resolution and operational execution.
Principal Accountabilities
• Interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and interviewing experts to support the client’s case
• Drafting pleadings and other legal documents
• Preparing witnesses for court appearances
• Communicating with clients throughout the litigation process to keep them informed about the status of their cases and any new developments
• Drafting legal briefs and motions to be submitted to the court
• Presenting cases in court by arguing facts and citing laws in support
• Conducting research on legal issues associated with cases
• Reviewing of agreements and other documents
• Proffer legal opinions and draft agreements with minimal supervision
• Thorough knowledge and practical experience of procedural law and substantive law
• Negotiating settlements.
• Perform all other duties that are necessary and reasonably attached
to this legal position and the fulfilment of its responsibilities.
• Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal/Learned Silk
Job Requirements/Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Law
• Nigerian Law School (5+ Years Post-Call)
• Masters in Law will be an advantage
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
• A level of interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to maintain effective working relationships with seniors, colleagues and clients
• Leadership skills, highly focused and committed to law practice
• Concise and precise law drafting skills
• Good eye for detail, effective time management and organisational skills
• Ability to keep abreast of professional, legal and technological developments in law
• Ability to effectively create legal defensive and proactive
Strategies
• Good negotiation skills
• Competent in MS Office suite (Outlook, PowerPoint and Word).
Experience
• At least 5 years’ cognate litigation experience acquired in a reputable law firm
• Appellate court appearance and experience is an advantage
