Job Description

Woodstock Legal Services isn’t your typical law firm. We’re breaking the mold – ditching the jargon, delivering expert advice, and doing things differently in the legal world. We've gathered our wisdom from years of legal experience and paired it with a willingness to break the mold.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and commercially-minded Solicitor to join a fast paced team specialising in landlord and tenant and debt recovery matters. Managing your own caseload from instruction through to enforcement, you will ensure matters progress efficiently while maintaining a high standard of technical excellence.

You’ll be trusted to take full ownership of your files, drive the team’s commercial success, and deliver a responsive, strategic service to our clients. This role offers the autonomy to manage a varied and complex caseload within a collaborative, performance-driven environment.

As a valued member of the firm, you will benefit from:

  • Opportunities to lead client training sessions, spearhead process improvements through legal technology, and contribute directly to business development initiatives.

  • A collaborative and supportive team environment where expertise is shared and success is celebrated.

  • Genuine career progression opportunities as the team continues to expand, with a clear pathway for professional advancement.

Responsibilities

Case Management & Legal Strategy

  • Autonomously manage a diverse caseload of possession matters (standard and complex/defended) and debt recovery instructions from inception to enforcement.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing high-level strategic advice that balances legal risk with commercial objectives.

  • Draft complex pleadings, witness statements, and instructions to Counsel; represent clients at hearings where appropriate.

  • Supervise and mentor paralegals or junior fee-earners, ensuring the quality and accuracy of their output.

  • Ensure rigorous adherence to Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), court deadlines, and bespoke client Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Commercial Performance & Business Development

  • Consistently meet or exceed individual monthly billing and time-recording targets.

  • Take full accountability for the financial lifecycle of files, including proactive WIP management, disbursements, and debt recovery on unpaid invoices.

  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities to expand the firm’s landlord and tenant or debt recovery portfolio.

  • Contribute to the firm’s profitability by optimizing file-handling processes and ensuring cost-effective matter management.

Legislative Leadership & Technical Expertise

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in Landlord and Tenant law, with a deep understanding of the Renters’ Rights Act and its practical implications for clients.

  • Lead internal knowledge-sharing sessions and provide technical guidance to the wider team on emerging legislative trends.

  • Ensure total compliance with SRA standards and internal risk management protocols.

  • Maintain a proactive approach to CPD, focusing on high-level technical mastery and strategic litigation tactics.

What You'll Bring

  • Strong working knowledge of possession proceedings and notice requirements

  • Confidence handling a high-volume caseload with competing deadlines

  • Commercial awareness, with a focus on efficiency

  • Excellent attention to detail and drafting skills

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach

Interview Process

  • Case study exercise

  • Final Interview (Hiring Managers)
