Medical Billing Clerk

What You'll Do

• Convert procedural notes into billable ICD-10, HCPCS/CPT codes
• Create claims in the client's EMR based on a monthly dataset of patient encounters.
• Accurately enter diagnosis (ICD-10) and other claim data from source datasets into the EMR, following defined mapping rules and cross-referencing existing records to ensure precision and consistency.
• Accurately match patients using identifiers such as name and date of birth, watching for cases where medical record numbers may not align across records.
• Flag any data inconsistencies or unclear cases to your team lead rather than guessing.
• Notify your team lead as claims are completed so they can be reviewed.
• Make corrections to claims based on adjustment requests routed to you, within the agreed turnaround time.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines when handling patient health information.

What We're Looking For

• Attentive, ambitious, and hard-working, with a strong sense of ownership over accuracy and turnaround.
• Understanding of insurance billing, documentation, coding, and collection concepts
• High attention to detail and comfort following precise data entry rules.
• Reliable, able to meet defined turnaround times while processing a high volume of claims during a tight monthly cycle, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Comfortable working independently and escalating questions rather than guessing.
• Understanding of HIPAA and handling of protected health information.
• Prior experience with medical billing, claims entry, or EMR data entry preferred.
• Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT coding concepts preferred.
• Experience with surgical information systems, provation MD, athenahealth

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
